About Us

Philosophy Statement

OakTree College is an independent senior secondary school providing education opportunities for young people of migrant backgrounds who may be experiencing difficulties within mainstream education settings and hence at risk of disengaging from education.

OakTree College aims to provide a sustainable and deliberate learning community where the potential and aspirations of the young people are harnessed and horned and where they are equipped with skills and knowledge for them to play their part in the wider Australian Multicultural society.

In accordance with the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic), OakTree College provides a secular education and does not promote any particular religious practice, denomination or sect and is open to adherents of any philosophy, religion or faith.

 

Statement of Democratic Principles

In accordance with the principles outlined in the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic), The programs of, and teaching at OakTree College support and promote the principles and practice of Australian democracy, including a commitment to

  • An elected government

  • The rule of law

  • Equal rights for all before the law

  • Freedom of religion

  • Freedom of speech and association

  • The values of openness and tolerance.
     

The College’s philosophy is intricately linked to all our school operations which include:

  • School policies and practices

  • Teaching and learning programs

  • Staff recruitment, induction and development

  • Organisational structures and practices

  • Interactions with students, staff, parents, Board members and the wider community
     

This Philosophy Statement is published on the College’s website and in the Student Handbook, Parent/Guardian Handbook and Teacher Handbook.

Regular evaluation processes are in place to measure performance in all areas of the College to ensure they align with the Philosophy Statement.

The Philosophy Statement will be reviewed as part of the College’s review process.
